About Owls Nest
A Legacy of Renewal

A Historic Barn
Reimagined as a Coastal Retreat
Perched on a quiet hilltop overlooking West Harbor and the Long Island Sound, Owl’s Nest is a place where history, design, and intention intersect. Originally built in the 1860s and relocated from Ohio to Fishers Island, this barn has been lovingly transformed into a home now crafted for celebration, gathering, reflection, and retreat.
From the moment you arrive, the landscape unfolds.
Two sweeping acres are designed with stone patios, seating areas, fire pits, and a sprawling lawn that leads to three expansive Ipe balconies. Each space offers a unique view of the harbor, the Sound, the distant Connecticut shoreline and the colorful western sunsets. The sense of expanse, inside and out, is immediate.
Inside, the home tells its story through light, material, and movement. Vaulted ceilings soar overhead, anchored by a 70-foot ridge beam and hand-hewn posts that still bear the marks of 19th-century craftsmen. Custom barn and stable doors, delicate sway braces, and floating steel-and-wood staircases add both texture and strength to the space. Every window and door was placed with intention—framing sight lines that shift with the light and invite you to pause.
On the main floor, the layout invites connection. A chef’s kitchen with dual islands is completely open to the dining area, fireside living room, game and puzzle nook, 20' of bifold doors and an outdoor fireplace for true indoor / outdoor living .
The walk in pantry, mudroom, full bath and laundry rooms provide full privacy to the downstairs bedroom with endless water views.
Upstairs, known as The Loft, the reclaimed barn doors and post and glass railings on the catwalk branch into either the "upper balcony", with views that go on for miles, or four water view bedrooms and two bathrooms, each joined by cozy gathering spaces, and an elevated rear deck.
And, above it all, The Nest — a crowning retreat accessed by spacious spiral stairs—offers 360° views through 20 dormer windows, where raised seating nooks create space for work, stargazing, solitude, a great book or simply an afternoon nap.
Every element in the home is curated—nothing random, nothing rushed. From the kayak suspended above the mezzanine to the Chinese propeller under a glass table, hand carved Moroccan chairs, the fluted Parisian game table and park benches, even a stone backsplash harvested from the land itself—each piece is part of the narrative. Materials are mixed with purpose: reclaimed barn wood cabinetry, steel mesh panels, twig chandelier, detailed soapstone counters, radiant concrete floors, rope and ladder lighting, and warm metal fixtures and textured materials all come together in tactile harmony.

Owl’s Nest was built to hold meaning. Whether you're here for a family gathering, a creative sabbatical, or a professional retreat, we invite you to experience a home where every detail tells a story—and where your own story can unfold in time.
